Keyboard Macros?
I've got two accounts, one running on my laptop and one running on my desktop. I have the key bindings set to where multitasking both of the player characters is do-able for me. I only have 2 hands though.
I was wondering if someone on this forums has experience with setting up keyboard macros on one computer (preferably the laptop) to where you can simplify pressing 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 -> 5, etc, with the push of only 2 or 3 keys, whether it's legal to do so in Guild Wars, and recommendations on what they use? I've done a search but answers are ambiguous for me. |

I use EventGhost for all my remote control needs. Use the Broadcaster (UDP) plugin or the Network Event Sender/Receiver (TCP) pair of plugins. The Broadcaster plugin isn't supplied with EG (get it from the forums - http://www.eventghost.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=724) but has the advantage that the sending machine doesn't have to wait for a reply (would be important in-game - wouldn't want the main machine unable to respond because it was waiting for a reply). Nor does it have to send it to a specific IP address - it broadcasts to your entire local subnet - important if you are using DHCP.
I've contributed some changes to the Broadcaster plugin (look for the posts by "magao") . Late in that thread is a discussion about EG stopping receiving the UDP broadcasts - you might need to use the workaround I suggested there. Thoughts for keymappings (taking into account the above advice of 1 key -> 1 action) ... I would suggest mapping the numeric keypad (1-8) to the skills for the second account i.e. "Numpad1" on controlling machine -> "1" on controlled machine. For most people the numeric keypad is unused in GW, and there's an obvious mapping there. Movement would be a problem for the second account - probably your best bet would be "select party leader" then "follow" on the second machine. You'll have a lot of stop/start though as following stops as soon as you catch up to someone. I think it's acceptable to have a single keypress execute the same command on both instances e.g. pressing "I" opens the inventory in both. So pressing "I" would send "I" to GW on both machines. Remember that if EG captures a key it doesn't go any further. If you want the captured key to continue through to GW you will need to explicitly send it yourself. Chat could be a problem with keys being intercepted (e.g. typing in chat on one, the other starts running around, opening inventory, etc). You'll probably want a key binding to turn the remote control on/off. As always, you do this at your own risk. Anet have stated that so long as there's someone physically sitting at the machine pressing keys to perform actions they're OK with it in PvE - they only have a problem when the game is playing itself (including things like drunk title bots) or in PvP (where it would give an unfair advantage). But of course they're free to change their position on this at any time. Last edited by magao; Nov 14, 2010 at 01:06 AM // 01:06.. |

Ooh, thanks a ton Magao for the info and for clarifying Anet's stance.
